Batula I am really enjoying the Leap of Love series – a series of wonderful western mystery romance stories about the Abbott brothers. Love Storm is Book 4 in the series and it focuses on Boyd Abbott. The storyline of this western romance book is very interesting and fun to read and the characters are multi-dimensional and deep. Having read all 4 books in this cowboy romance series, I am already well and truly hooked and cannot wait for the next western on kindle! This historical romance examines love and loyalty and I really enjoyed the way Boyd and Bianca clicked together. I love their western kisses, highly recommended!

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Needs Work By Reader2 I, too, felt like I'd read a different book from the other reviewers. I truly respect the amount of time and effort that goes into writing a novel but I have to say, this one needs a little work. It seems like a very rough, first draft written by a teenager. The story is set in the west after the civil war. Twin brothers leave South Carolina to become U.S. Marshals in Arizona. The day they arrive, they're assigned their first case, to find a kidnapped young woman. As far as I'm concerned the story goes downhill rapidly from that point. The plot is weak and you can predict the outcome before you get past the second page. The dialog is stilted and choppy. The author tries to write "western" dialog but slips in and out. At one point, one of the Marshals thought that hearing more about the kidnapped woman made her "persona" seem more real. Then later on, he thought something was "mind blowing." I just can't see either one of those things being thought by a Civil War era, U.S. Marshall. The characters are rather two dimensional. The other reviewers were correct about one thing, there isn't anything "bad" in the book, no bad language, no bad behavior, no explicit sex scenes, but then that pretty much describes the book...no anything at all.Spoiler Alert - Here are just a couple of issues I had with the book:The missing woman was kidnapped a week before the brothers arrived from South Carolina. The brothers have never been to Arizona and know nothing at all about the area or about being Marshals. They've had no training or instructions whatsoever, yet the day they arrive, they're put in charge of a case that the experienced lawmen in the area couldn't solve. Really? If that's not enough, the kidnapped woman's brother rides along with them and more or less leads the investigation. He's the one who spots the crushed blueberries that his sister has supposedly dropped for them to find. Hmmmm....the brother's been searching for her for a week and now he miraculously finds the berries? Then there's the fact that the woman is dropping "crushed" berries from her hands that are tied together and her kidnapper never notices the stains on her hands. He unties and reties her hands several times to allow her to change clothes and use the bathroom. How could he possibly miss sticky, colored fingers full of berry juice?The story has potential but I really think it could use a little work.

28 of 30 people found the following review helpful. interesting, fast-paced book about a dramatic struggle By Mageditor This book does a good job telling the dramatic story of the Spanish Armada and correcting the myths surrounding it. I have stood on the greens of Plymouth Hoe in England where Drake was said have played a game of bowls before going out to lead the tiny English navy to victory against the much larger Spanish fleet. But the author points out that this famous English legend was not quite accurate -- in fact, there was a rough parity in the sizes of the fleets. Spain had more bulky galleons, but England actually had more total ships in the water.This book is fast-paced –- full of interesting facts and details but still easy to read. It began with a chapter of historical background that at first seemed like a digression: the “sorrowful voyage” in 1567-8 of an English fleet led by captains Hawkins and Drake to capture slaves in Africa and sell them (illegally) to the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean. But bad weather and unfortunate events lead to “miseries and troublesome affairs”: shipwrecks, death, and torture at the hands of the Spanish Inquisition. Only a handful of the 400 or so sailors that had started out returned safely to England. In fact, these voyages were central to the premature start of conflict between tiny England and the wealthy Spanish Empire.The author gives readers helpful background on the religious and political disputes in Europe in the late 16th Century without getting into excessive detail. The battles of the Armada were in reality the high point in a forty-year-long cold war between England and Spain. Only when set in the context of a Europe bitterly divided between the Catholic and Protestant faiths can the contest be fully understood.Williams paints a vivid portrait of the world’s most powerful monarch, the intensely private, reserved, and devoutly religious King Philip. From his tiny, cluttered office in the Escorial, he ruled over Spain, its many possessions in the New World, and the kingdoms of Milan, Sicily, Naples, Dijon, Brussels, and the Netherlands. Philip’s annexation of Portugal meant his dominions stretched from much of the Americas to Eastern Asia.We learn of the competition between Mary, the English Catholic Queen who was deposed by her younger sister, the Protestant Queen Elizabeth, who imprisoned and eventually executed her older sister. The author also describes the efforts of Prince William of Orange to liberate the Netherlands from the brutal oppression of the Spanish monarchy. His assassination was one more factor leading to the Armada.There is also a section in the book on the brilliant circumnavigation of the world by Sir Francis Drake, who brought back so much treasure to England that the booty was equal to two years of revenue for the Crown.The story of the Spanish Armada itself is one of the great dramas in history. When Philip II learned of the result of the expedition, he declared, "I sent the Armada against men, not God's winds and waves."This book gives a concise and vivid account of the Armada, and I learned many interesting facts. For example, an important result of the conflict was that the supply ships on their way to England's struggling colony in the New World were pressed into service against the Spaniards; by the time the resupply reached the settlement two years later, all the colonists had vanished at the “Lost Colony of Roanoke.”I looked up the author, Jay Williams, as there was no information provided. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart during World War II and turned to writing after his discharge from the Army in 1945. He published dozens of books including mysteries, historical novels, picture books, and a play. He was perhaps best known for his young adult "Danny Dunn" science fiction/fantasy series. In addition to The Spanish Armada, Williams wrote three other books for American Heritage (Horizon): Leonardo da Vinci, Joan of Arc, and Knights of the Crusades.

The author moves the story along with interesting sketches of all the major players, the tenor of the time and the strategic issues of church and state. The author manages to keep the story building to it’s conclusion without getting too deep into details keeping even the most casual history buff turning the next page.Well done!

Booster Gold shines again in Time Masters: Vanishing Point By David Suiter Writer and artist Dan Jurgens tells a story of his time travelling hero Booster Gold in Time Masters: Vanishing Point. Booster Gold recently hit the big time in an episode of Smallville on the WB Network. The episode picked up on many of the recent comic book developments with the character.Time Masters: Vanishing Point continues the story of Booster Gold and his partner Rip Hunter from the Booster Gold series produced by DC Comics. Booster and Rip are time cops making sure that time progresses as it always has. There are villains who wish to go back in time and alter events to suit them. Booster and Rip must prevent this.Jurgens uses some nice story telling techniques to go in depth on the characters of Booster Gold and Rip Hunter. The interactions the two heroes have throughout the story with Superman and Green Lantern help to tell who these characters are. Booster is defined by his aloofness. He must present the act of a media crazed, bumbling fool to continue as the greatest hero the world has never known. If his enemies knew what he was really up to they would stop at nothing to finish him off. This is not always easy for Booster to take and Jurgens conveys this throughout the story.Rip Hunter on the other hand is more of a mystery. Jurgens frames every story in this collection with a look at a young Rip as he grows and learns the dangers that come as a protector of the time stream. This method that Jurgens uses allows the reader to get more from the story not only of its central character but also of how the events of his youth are shaping his present.Jurgens does insert some items into the story that occurred in other stories not printed here and new readers may find that off putting, but not enough to detract from the overall story. Like most serialized fiction the story began somewhere else and continues in another book.The art that Jurgens provides with his inker Norm Rapamund is outstanding. A throwback to the more classic art of the 1990s, the pencil work is clean and each character is distinguishable from the next.The verdict: There is some great character development in this book. Jurgens makes the efforts of Booster Gold and Rip Hunter seem real and important in a fantastic way. The story has a beginning, a middle and an end but leaves enough plots dangling to entice the reader to come back for more. Fans of comics from all ages will enjoy this book

Final Crisis/Return of Bruce Wayne/Secret Origin of Booster Gold and Rip Hunter you weren't expecting tie-in sort of thing By Gareth This volume reprints DC Comics' Time Masters: Vanishing Point #1-6. It tells the story (or some of it anyway) of what was going on with Rip Hunter and the Justice League in The Return of Bruce Wayne. We also get to see a secret origin of both Rip Hunter and Booster Gold that I have not come across before. There is a story of sorts tying this book together, as Rip Hunter and various JLA members look for Bruce Wayne, who was catapulted back in time by Darkseid at the end of the Final Crisis. We have a group of villains brought together by the Black Beetle to seize control of time travel while there is a crisis keeping everyone else busy; we have Supernova - the Booster Gold rival, who turned out to be Booster Gold's ancestor in the Countdown series; and we have Rip Hunter and company `lost' in time and teaming up with Claw and Starfire, two old fantasy characters; throw in the return of the Linear Men and a new Waverider, and you have an enjoyable adventure that actually moves some admittedly minor characters' stories forward. The artwork is excellent, and in style with the story.

Steirer Time Masters: Vanishing Point collects issues #1-6 of Time Masters: Vanishing Point, originally published between 2010 and 2011. It's hard to tell exactly where this falls continuity-wise (for instance, is it before, after, or during Justice League: Generation Lost, Vol. 1?), but it clearly comes after the events of Final Crisis and is meant to occur simultaneously with Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne. Production quality is competent: thin, medium-gloss paper and a flexible if somewhat messily glued binding (my copy has a couple smears of glue at the top of the spine). There are no extras save a single variant cover for issue #1.Dan Jurgen's story, in which Rip Hunter and Booster Gold lead Superman and Hal Jordan through time on a quest to find Batman, is fun and imaginative stuff, though not as tightly plotted--and not quite *as* imaginative--as Geoff Johns and Jurgen's earlier work on Booster Gold (see Booster Gold: Blue and Gold SC and Booster Gold: Day of Death). In fact, the story would probably have worked better had it stuck solely to Rip and Booster, as Booster's own series did. Here, Jurgens seems to have written in more characters than he knows what to do with (what purpose do Klaw and Starfire serve?); by the end, even Superman and Hal Jordan seem unnecessary additions. Art-wise, however, Jurgens is at the top of his game here. His pencils are expressive and dynamic--and beautifully colored by Hi-Fi Designs.If you like Dan Jurgens or Booster Gold, you'll likely enjoy this book. If you're a Batman fan looking for tie-ins to Batman's return, however, you're probably better off skipping this one (the search for Batman is a quickly abandoned setup). That said, by its end Vanishing Point appears to be functioning as a prologue for DC's next mega-event, Flashpoint. If you're at all interested in that, you'll want to pick this book up.

By David Having read most of Mace's work I was not disappointed as once again he writes a tale rich in detail, characters and action. This second in the series of Vespasian's rise to power wasn't as focused on Vespasian as it was the military campaign in Northern Italy and then finally to the taking of Rome which Vespasian did not take part in. From the perspectives of the different characters involved on both sides of the conflict, Mace tells a tale well worth reading. One must certainly read the first in the series to appreciate the motivations and 'back story' although Mace does a commendable job of touching on that back story without making it overly obvious or annoying so that even starting with this book, the reader would not be totally lost but would merely miss another excellent read.

There is not much for me to say other than that for anyone who is interested in Ancient Rome you have to read this book! It is extremely well written and you just can't help but say to yourself "just one more page".

Finished reading in record time and just started reading it again. I have read the series multiple times and now have to wait for the final chapter to come out. Guess I'll have to start all over again from the beginning.... Thanks for a great read!

I found it to be a bit disorganized and did not delve very deeply into its ideas. I would have preferred the author to pick fewer steps and flesh them out a bit more. Some more examples of how these steps play out in the lives of real people would be nice. The author seems to talk about his own experiences quite a bit, which although valid do not necessarily provide a wide range of connections for his readers. There are certainly some worthwhile pieces of the book and it is a fast read, so don't let that stop you from picking it up!

Some, like The Pathfinder, focus on your metrics - and do a superb job of pulling out your values, interests, aptitudes, skills and abilities. This books focusses more on the emotional path and the mindset and attitude needed to succeed in the search.The questions at the start which go towards building your emotional compass are extremely helpful, and for me, added something I had not come across before. I wrote out 5 pages longhand in response to them, and the results were worth the cramps !!There are other books out there which are more comprehensive on the metrics of a career search; but this book is a worthy and solid inclusion in the field and well worth getting.

However, I am so glad I found these books, and I want to say, they aren't just for children! Gustav Klimt painted some great paintings, some I loved, some I was ambivalent toward, but still appreciated they were well executed paintings.As for the person complaining they could not see them, I would advise he/she open them in the Kindle app for their OS, and view them on their computer. Makes a world of difference in your ability to see them. My favorite is Malcesine on Lake Garda, 1913, and next fav is Church in Cassone. My Virtual Reality Trip to the Louvre, Paris Part 8 of 12 By Don Kidwell Germanic Paintings 18th/19th Centuries : Moving on from Dutch painters like Vermeer we took 3 lefts until we found our first Klimt painting. It was real interesting to see the diversity in his paintings from the portrait "Sonja Knips" to "Garden Path with Chicken" which made the kids laugh. All right, already, let's see some French artists like Monet next given we are in the Louvre. And if you care to begin at the start of our pretend trip please go back to da Vinci if you like.

This collection of 24 paintings of this artist will be great for artist studies in homeschool and I plan to use it for that purpose. I especially love that Stanley Cesar included The Garden Path with Chickens, Beech Forest, and Malcesine at Lake Garda. Stunning paintings and we love how they are made available in this collection for use in teaching children appreciation of great art.
