Roche Limit has a commendable plot and good enough art to stay on my bookshelf. While I found the writing, particularly the dialogue, a bit weak, almost unnatural at times, I really did like the premise and setting, the science fiction behind it all. The characters were not the most interesting, and I wasn't entirely thrilled or moved at any one point, I honestly didn't build any "relationships" with the characters, or didn't care too much for them, but the science fiction, the narrative and premise made up for any short coming in character. I thought the art was good in most places, but also too simple at times. All that criticism aside, I still enjoyed the book, and I will pick up the next volume.

By Amazon Customer Very interesting story, definitely a unique concept, with some characters that could really go a long way. The presentation, both in artwork and concept is wonderful, with scientific journal type sections and other things you wouldn't expect perhaps in a medium like this. I'm curious to see the next installment and if it follows with threads from this or if it will be a standalone entity. As it stands this book could probably be a standalone, and opened the possibility for a lot of different story arcs. Class society, murder, space exploration, and the borders and barriers of man and his intellect and ego. A little bit confusing at times, but worth more than one read. The next book definitely needs more clarity and a little more structure, but much like some first episodes of a successful TV show (The Americans comes to mind for me) there has to be some setup and establishment.

But the story just kinda petered out and took some turns seemingly out of nowhere. It felt like there was an issue or two that were missing.

By RStringini First off, if you are buying this book and it has a blue cover, it is the light novel. If it has a red cover, it is the manga. Another way to tell the two apart (since it can be a royal pain in the butt on Amazon) is to look at the cover, and check if it says "Illustrated By". All light novels list the artist under "Illustrated by", as the books only contain limited spot illustrations.Now that all that is out of the way, lets get to the actual book.I really enjoyed the anime, and I thought I would give the original light novel a chance. If you have seen the anime, then you are already well versed in what happens in this book. The only real difference is added insight into the minds of several of the characters, plus a few extended moments with Emi's friend, Rika.Even though I was already pretty familiar with the plot, I seriously enjoyed this book. The writing is fast and fun, the plot moves, and the interesting and colorful characters keep you engaged. It is also interesting to see where both the anime and manga series started, and how closely they hold to the original text. While it may take a book or two to get past what the anime covered, I am for sure going to keep reading, as I found this book to be immensely enjoyable. I also enjoyed the little character "resume" forms, and the attractive color art presented in the beginning of the book.If you are a fan of The Devil is a Part-Timer in its anime form, then I highly recommend checking out the original source material. Very well written, and highly entertaining.

Hayes Devil is a Part Timer is a pretty hilarious light novel that is in the same typical high end quality as other Yen On light novels. The translator, Kevin G, who I dont have as doing other Yen On Light novels that Ive read is great. The volume reads nicely with no typos. Fake names of brands and places are translated well too conveying excellent similarities to what they are attempting to be real life knock offs of. Everything else reads great too with conversation flowing well and with terms like modern people do speak in the real world. It was a blast to read and one that was wonderful.In terms of extra content, Yen On gave the character files at the start of the book a translation as well as being in color, while the end of the book extras are the character files (without the characters covering over a large portion of them) translated like resumes. There is afterward provided which is witty.In terms of content, there are a few minor scenes included that werent animated, while the end of the book some scenes are done in much more detail to make them flow better together that the anime didnt (for example the post climax moment telling how and what was discussed in detail at Maou's place). Though for those familiar with the anime it was still fun to read as their interactions are kind of funny in the written format and not just on screen. The descriptions of expressions or whats running through their minds is nice.Devil Is A Part TImer is a great start to another light novel series being brought from Yen On and I cant wait for more volumes. It was really good.

First, I'll give you the differences between the manga, and the light novel:Light novel: Has a blue color theme.Manga: Has a red color theme.Next, I'll give you a rundown of the story.Satan, after a huge battle in the world of Ente Isla, against the hero Emilia, retreats through a portal, and lands in the middle of Tokyo with his trusted ally Alciel. The two then learn info about their current situation, the Japanese language, and so on. They get an apartment from a landlady(who--as it says in the novel "looks like a giant, purple potato that was peeled in random areas,") and they begin their normal life. Soon after, though Satan(now going by Maou), encounters a strange girl on the sidewalk, and lends her his umbrella. The girl turns out to be the hero, Emillia, who had chased down Satan and Alciel, following them into Japan! However, things aren't completely peachy, as a mysterious person soon begins attacking them! Can the two work together long enough to protect Japan--even more so--their lives?!ART: 10/10The art is extremely good In the cover art, and the illustrations throughout the novel.WRITING: 10/10I haven't stumbled across any weird wordings, or anything.QUALITY: 8/10The shipping quality was okay, but not the best. There were tears along the cover, and both covers were bent.OVERALL: 4/5 STARSEverything was good, except for the shipping quality. I definitely recommend it, if you are a fan of the anime, as this is the source material. Everything from the anime and manga, was born from this novel.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A light and fluffy first volume. By RStringini First, in this volume there are no witches, let alone seven of them. Now, I'm guessing they come along later, but for now... there is an absence of witches. As for what is in the book...The main story has to dow with some body swapping. As far as stories like this go, I actually found it pretty entertaining. The main cast is relatively small at this point, so the few cast members that are present are given some time to breathe and grow a little. It helps a lot. The manga-ka takes her time developing things, and revealing what is going on. There is also a heavy focus on comedy. Most of it is effective, and the general tone of the book is pretty up beat and easy. There is some mild fan service in this volume, but most of it is used for comedic effect.The art is attractive and expressive. Not just in the facial features, but in the whole characters' body. This is key to helping keep the reader clued in to who is in whose body. All of the characters are distinct and easy to identify. There are not a ton of backgrounds, or background detail, but for a book that focuses more on characters talking, they aren't really missed.In the end I would recommend Yamada-Kun and the Seven Witches. It's fun, light and so far, pretty inoffensive. Give it a go. Who knows, you might like it.

By Ian Beck I first discovered Yamada-kun when CrunchyRoll added manga to their standard subscription service, and to be honest I only tried it because nothing else looked remotely interesting. I had very low expectations, since the description made it sound like a standard trashy harem. Long story short my first impression was dead wrong, and it's now one of my favorite manga; I've read all 150+ comics, eagerly await the next installment every week, and am happily re-reading it now that it's being published in physical copies.Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches is primarily a comedy, and is a breath of fresh air for someone who doesn't particularly like how manga relationships tend to either be super repressed or illegal (not so into people crushing on their little sisters; and no, a "first cousin raised as my sister" doesn't make it better). It has harem aspects (in that a number of people are attracted to the main character), but despite all the kissing the love story is pretty stably focused on the main character and his love interest. Highly recommended.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great! By Jed This is an excellent first volume. I have read many mangas in my life and it was nice to see something somewhat original. The story isn't strong, it's mostly focused on two characters and the start of the series, I am excited to see where it goes. The art is wonderful, the characters are decent, I personally like the two main characters a lot, and the plot is just starting if there is one. Definitely check it out, I think there is an anime being aired so I may check that out eventually.

About the Author Nobel prize-winning writer Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India, but returned with his parents to England at the age of five. Influenced by experiences in both India and England, Kipling s stories celebrate British imperialism and the experience of the British soldier in India. Amongst Kipling s best-known works are The Jungle Book, Just So Stories, and the poems Mandalay and Gunga Din. Kipling was the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel prize for literature (1907) and was amongst the youngest to receive the award. Kipling died in 1936 and is interred in Poets Corner in Westminster Abbey.

The sequel to Rascal’s tale By PaulAllard Having reviewed Volume 1 – not too positively – I thought that I see if Volume 2 was any better and frankly it’s all starting to make a bit more sense now. The artwork is clearer as is the story and more fantasy characters are introduced.Pointless to read this without having read Volume 1, the continuing journey of Rascal, Daione and her other “friends” is engaging enough as the Umbral try to convince her to join them whilst she learns magic at Daione’s hands. However, unsurprisingly, there is a traitor in their midst – or more than one?Intriguing enough for me to want to know what happens next.
