About the Author Marilyn Ball is an advertising executive and writer with over twenty-five years of experience in Western North Carolina hospitality, economic development and tourism. She has published articles in many local publications including Sun Magazine, WNC Woman and Verve Magazine. Marilyn Ball moved to Asheville in 1977 and has been working to foster a spirit of community there ever since.

By Mark File What a wonderful collection of inspirational stories about how ideas and dreams become amazing realities, making Asheville the wonderful city it is today. It's a must read for anyone that lives in or loves Asheville. And it's a must read for anyone who wants to make their community a better place. Each chapter is a short "case study" that tells the stories such as how downtown Asheville was saved and how seeds of ideas became organizations that help so many. The chapters are quick reads and end appropriately with "what we have learned." These are real stories about some determined people. It will make you smile and encourage you to think big! Thank you Marilyn for documenting these great moments of history.
