It is the nature of humans to work towards something. While everyone has their own ideas of what success means, it is generally within a fairly small parameter. We have our needs that must be met first. We must have food, shelter, warmth. We must have friends and family who respect and love us. We must be able to love ourselves. Finally, we might be able to reach a higher level in which we can focus on self-actualization. Once we determine what our goal should be, whether it be an employment goal, an educational goal, or a health goal, we will be able to research what is required to meet that goal. This happens before we ever need the motivation to act towards achieving the goal. When we activate, we set forces in motion that will help us on our path to success. We form a plan and make any preparations that are necessary. We start carrying out that plan with the level of intensity we feel it is due. When all of these things come together, our motivation will have brought us to the realization of our goals. We will have earned success through our hard work and dedication, and we did it all because we had mastered the secrets of motivation.

I was surprised to learn so much more about this city reading ThisisReno. In this book there are stories written that tell how this community is a fun, edgy, unusual, and inspiring place to live written by some of Reno's people. There are articles about possibilities within and around this community that we wouldn't necessarily know about otherwise. Reading this little book, one learns about politics that do not work for those the governments and businesses are meant to serve. And here, people question the status quo. I read about what brings life, creativity, freedom and goodness to the lives of some of the people in Reno. This is a little book with big ideas. If you are a tourist read ThisisReno. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Poetic and memorable By Paul Mastin One word that comes to mind in describing Cecilia Ruiz's The Book of Memory Gaps: melancholy. Ruiz tells the tales, in a few short lines, of various individuals whose memories have failed them. The dancer who had a fall, and is unable to perform. The composer who continues to write songs that have already been written. I was especially sad for Viktor, who "arrived home on the same shore, thinking that he had been at sea for months. His wife would be there to welcome him, though he had left that same morning. Sadly for him, his wife's excitement could never equal his."Not all of Ruiz's characters suffer chronic memory loss. Some are nostalgic, are longing for something they have never seen but feel like they should have, or, like Natasha, "constantly has words on the tip of her tongue. She keeps feeling she is about to remember, but they never come. She spends her days searching for all of her missing words."Ruiz's text is poetic and rich, telling powerful stories in a few sentences. The illustrations have a dusky, dreamlike quality. You might smile, laugh, or cry, but you will definitely remember.Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

Gentle, Thoughtful, Thought Provoking Melancholy By Pop Bop In this book Ms. Ruiz introduces us to fourteen characters, each struggling with a question of memory. The souls might be sad, lost, confused, discouraged or simply misguided, but each leads us to a thoughtful contemplation of the nature of memory.The drawings, one for each character, are gentle, unadorned and colored in a muted palette that leans toward brown and green and gray. Each drawing is accompanied by a single phrase or sentence that sets it in context while commenting on some aspect of the character. The effect suggests sadness or resignation, but also great dignity.About halfway through we encounter Alexander, who "...quit his career as a composer when, for the fifth time, without noticing it, he wrote a piece that already existed". This reminded me of Jorge Luis Borges and his tale of Pierre Menard, who rewrote, unintentionally, word for word, all of "Don Quixote". Interestingly enough, the book ends with a quotation from Borges about memory, so maybe I was on to something.In any event, this is an elegant and rewarding effort. Ms. Ruiz is a successful graphic artist, (it's worth looking at her webpage), but this appealing first book shows me great depth and was a happy find. Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Forgettable By Alt The Book of Memory Gaps follows this pattern: Page 1 - first name of character beneath small drawing of character. Page 2 - two to four sentences describing something about the character that pertains in some way to memories. Page 3 - full page drawing illustrating the description on page 2. Page 4- blank. Repeat pattern until the book ends.The tiny stories have to do with lost memories, false memories, sense memories, and unwanted memories. They could, I suppose, be viewed as prose poems although the writing is not particularly lyrical. A couple of them made me chuckle, particularly the fellow who quit his job as a composer after composing five works that already existed, accompanied by a picture of the fellow taking an axe to his piano.The blank pages apparently represent memory gaps. Some of the characters apparently suffer from dementia.I like the concept of this book more than the execution. It seems to me that it is trying to reach a level of profundity that it never achieves. My initial reaction to the book was "so what?" so I read it again, more slowly, looking for something I missed. I couldn't find it.The book doesn't say anything we don't already know, and few of the tiny stories resonated with me. Unfortunately, this isn't a book that will linger in my memory.

Nowhere Close to Being as Funny as I Thought it Would Be By FredTownWard And if I had to guess, I believe part of the reason is that Robb Pearlman couldn't decide whether he was writing a book for those who love unicorns or those who hate them so he ended up writing a book that will disappoint both, but I believe the biggest reason is that he couldn't come up with anything close to 101 unicorn use jokes.I went back and counted them: I found 27 genuinely funny, 17 decidedly NOT funny (most of the uses for a dead unicorn ended up here IMHO), but an astonishing 57 that weren't funny or sick or anything but "meh". A lot of these last fall under the heading of, "Well, I suppose a unicorn COULD be used for that, but what's the point?" (Or more importantly, where's the joke?)Finally, one is just reused from his previous book 101 Ways to Kill A Zombie.If you cannot come up with more than 44 even allegedly humorous uses for a unicorn, you should wait until you do before publishing.

Even stranger is the world she lives in, and this book gives a picture of just how weird it can be.This book is filled with creepy punk-rock art that Emily seems to like. She can be on a boat on top of a ghoul tsunami wave in one scene, and appear in a Escher like painting the next. The illustrations are really well reproduced and there are also some cool photos on related stuff like merchandise, the shop, rock and roll sessions, etc. Every page is about dark fantasy captured on the canvas.There isn't any text except for the glowing introduction by legendary punk artist Winston Smith.This is certainly not the book for every one. Starting in the cool waters of the Shoreham pool in DC the reader is immersed in the what the OSS went through to develop the rebreather and tactics and technology that make up America's first swimmer commandos. I loved the abundance of small vignettes that are carefully woven together to tell this story from commando raids in the Mediterranean to solo rescue missions behind the lines in Albania. What I liked the most is how O'Donnell told the story cinematic yet accurate, even academic manor (never dry but see the sources) evidenced by years of research. I'm recommending it to all my friends and our local history book club."

First SEALS is Extensively researched in every detail--O'Donnell used 10,000 documents to unearth an amazing untold story. I think what I loved the most about this book are the characters -- all larger than life. This book reads cinematically and is screaming to be a movie!

O'Donnell does just that with First SEALs.Where to begin? Start with an amazing and largely untold story. Throw in a movie star. Set it against World War II.From the earliest notions of special forces, each stage is met with O'Donnell's characteristic mastery of telling a tale--backed up with the research and insight only possible from a master historian.I concur with other reviewers--this should be a motion picture. And, it's easy to imagine it as one due to O'Donnell's rare ability to place the reader in the time, place, setting, and mindset of the people involved. And, in my opinion, that's due to the quality of the writing.Great story. Great writing. Great insights. A pure stimulating pleasure to read. The only question I have of First SEALs is "When's the next book due out?"They just keep getting better. And, as I mentioned, I didn't think that was possible.

By Jim The story of one family out of many who went through a very frightening Christmas Eve in Darwin in 1974 when cyclone Tracey thrashed the City.It tells about the horrifying experiences and thoughts of a family on Christmas Eve and venturing out on Christmas morning to find the utter devastation around them.The experiences of a whole city without accommodation, food, water or facilities, is so hard to imagine. There was no way to communicate with relatives or friends elsewhere and there was always the threat of disease.There were the forced evacuations from Darwin separating families and the eventual return to the City to rebuild and having to deal with bureaucrats making life even more difficult with the next wet season about to arrive.The memories of that night still live in the minds of those who went through that frightening time.This is a story well worth reading and remembering what Mother Nature can do at any time.

Scared the life out of me and brought a few tears to my eyes. You should have kept the pool table as a good luck charm. Thinking of going out and buying a seaman's chest and pack our red wine in it. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! No wonder you suffered and are still suffering trauma. You are not only a great artist but now a great writer. Keep up the great work.

Need More By JacJLJB 4 StarsWas given an ARC for an honest review.The story between Ciara and Nikolaj continues and we all know how Scarlett left "Casual Encounter" with a cliffhanger and this story leaves and even bigger cliff hanger. Must say Scarlett is very good at this and she keeps getting better and better.Ciara is now back in New York after her amazing hot sex in Canada with the dirty talking hot passionate lover Nikolaj. Ciara has been ignoring all texts and phone calls from Nikolaj and when she goes to work first thing in the morning after her trip her office is filled with 25 bunches of flowers with a note in a box personally written by Nikolaj himself. Finally Ciara contacts Nikolaj and now knows how serious he is about her. Still Ciara is scared and needs her BFF to confide in and needs to understand that she is not going stupid about what she is feeling.While Ciara was a away on her trip a guy by the name of Mr. Echev who is a spaniard camped outside her office waiting for her. Thinking it was kinda freaky but her assistant and another employee said that for being a man in his late fifties to early sixties wasn't so handsome and breath taking they wouldn't have allowed him to camp outside her office. Mr. Echev was desperate to meet up with Ciara that he booked a flight all the way to Barcelona, booked her in the best hotel and restaurant and spared no expense. Once Ciara arrives in Barcelona she finds out that Mr Echev is actually a doctor and is the team surgeon for the Barcelona Soccer/Football team. Dr. Echev has to fly out to do an emergency operation on a player and allows Ciara a day of sightseeing around the beautiful city until he gets back.Nikolaj surprises Ciara in Barcelona and is going to spend four days with her. Ciara has had some amazing lovers and sex in the past but never has a guy flown across the world and put a hold on his business trip to spend the time with her. Will Ciara let her feelings come to the surface and start letting admitting to herself that Nikolaj is not going anywhere as he is not afraid to admit how he feels.Ciara finally gets to having the meeting with Dr. Echev and he kinda looks familiar but understands how her employees couldn't turn him away as he is breaktakely beautiful. Ciara can't work out how she may know him but Dr. Echev reveals that they met when she was 16 when her and her mother came to Barcelona. Dr. Echev reveals something to Ciara that has her storming out of his office. Which leads to the cliffhanger...The relationship between Ciara and Nikolaj continues to become stronger but still face a lot more battles. Especially now what Dr. Echev has revealed.The story is still going strong but what really annoyed me with this story is that Ciara is a beautiful person but was very vain about what she puts on. I know she likes her high end fashion but did we really need to know that everything she puts on is from high end designers. From the underwear, clothes, shoes, bags and even to the make up. It would be nice that everything she puts on we don't need to know the designer. Hope in the rest of the series that Scarlett writes less of that and more of the emotional side of Ciara as materialistic things don't buy happiness and that deep down is what Ciara is chasing. You come into the world with nothing and go out into the world with nothing. Maybe too much emphasis on the brand names of what Ciara chooses to wear.Overall can't wait to see what happens next with Ciara!!!

Hot, Sexy and Surprising By kim Ciara has returned to New York and she is trying hard to forget about the hot sexual encounter she had with Nicolaj in Toronto by immersing herself in her work. However, she can't get his blue eyes, sexy British accent and sexy dirty talk out of her head....oh yes and the illicit sexual encounter that rocked her world like no other man has. The drop dead gorgeous billionaire Nicolaj can't get the sexy seductress Ciara out of his mind. He has never thought about a women the way he does Ciara she just won't leave his thoughts. They both turn to their best friends for advice. While in Toronto a older, hot, and wealthy Spaniard named Mr. Echev comes to Ciara's office wanting to meet with her about doing some work for him in Spain. Mr. Echev flies Ciara to Spain for an all expense paid business trip. Nicolaj takes his best friends advice and flies from Japan to Spain to surprise Ciara and they find themselves spending more time together and building a relationship that scares Ciara. Nicolaj is also their for Ciara when Mr. Echev drops a life changing bomb on her. Book two is just as sexy as book one but is a great build on the series. I really enjoyed the book and if you like hot, steamy and sexy reads you will enjoy it too. Can't wait to get a hold of book three.

This book stars right where book 1 ends. I liked this book for different reasons that for book 1. I enjoyed reading how Nikolaj is trying to show Ciara that is was more than just sex for him and that he truly likes her. He is trying to get her to face how she feels about him and admit it to him. Ciara has gone back to New York and has been ignoring Nikolaj’s calls and texts. He isn’t going to let that stop him though. Ciara can’t believe that Nikolaj has managed to get under her skin in just a few days. She can’t stop thinking about him. Nikolaj starts sending her flowers with little personal notes and she gives in and begins to speak with him again. She has a client who wants her to go to Barcelona to meet with him. Nikolaj wants her to come meet him in the Far East. She can’t pass up the chance to expand her business so she agrees to meet with the client. She gets a surprise when she gets to Barcelona though. She finds herself wanting to be with him and slowly admitting it to him a little bit at a time. Nikolaj is just different from the men she normally meets. She is scared about getting hurt but she is beginning to take a chance on Nikolaj. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. It has totally sucked me in. The characters are fantastic. Nikolaj is great he knows when to push Ciara and when to wait patiently. He is showing her how he feels and that seems to work for her better than anything he says. He is romantic, dominate, and hot. Scarlett Avery is being one of my new favorite authors. I am glad I have the whole series and can read them back to back.I was given this book in return for an honest review.

This book is normally given to master students of the Science of Success in class, and I was very surprise to see it sold on AMAZON to just everyone. The master students are normally working toward their Leader Certificate and go on to teach the science professionally. They all say they loved reading it, (including me), and it took their understanding of the science to a higher level! It was written by napoleon Hill in the 1940s for that purpose, and it does a great job of doing just that! Some people believe it is the best book of all! Thanks

Our relationship(s) to water in all its form(s) are illuminated in Michael Blackstock's book of poetry. He takes us to oil spills, our bodies, a visit with Coyote and Raven, while experiencing a range of emotions within his writing. Through both humour and seriousness, Blackstock helps remind and connect us to water's essential nature in all aspects of our lives. I as a reader cannot help be more mindful about the element of water and curious about blue ecology.

It always delivers entertainment, although sometimes that's the wrapping around an otherwise difficult to swallow pill. The illustrations are charming and beautiful while the words are well-considered and clever. Ranging from subjects as mundane as American car design to imagining what an honest world's fair would have promised (hint: combat drones and xanax) the collection is obviously the product of a great mind and skilled hand. The only risk with this book is that you'll read the contents in a single sitting, which is a small risk considering the window it opens on a fascinating mind.Definitely worth buying, good coffee table book.

Although it will remind one of the Far Side, and this is meant to be complimentary, its intellectual range of topics, from existential angst to satisfying political jabs to new age culture make it quite a different sort of comedy. Highly recommend it as a great book for the coffee-table. Much fun!

This is a book of funny cartoons that helped me get through a harrowing 400 day long legal battle with a giant corporate entity, and gave me the inspiration for my latest invention which to date has earned me over 1.5 millions dollars. It also helped me to understand a lot more about women, the universe and everything.Seriously though, this is a darn funny book by a funny dude. Clever thoughts illustrated beautifully.I recommend it highly.

About the Author

Cory Graff is the Military Aviation Historian at the Flying Heritage Collection museum in Everett, Washington. In his free time, he works on aviation-related history projects, including exhibits and books. His articles have been published in Air & Space Smithsonian magazine and the Museum of Flight's Aloft magazine. Graff is the author of five previous aviation books, including Shot to Hell: The Stories and Photos of Ravaged WWII Warbirds, Strike and Return: American Air Power and the Fight for Iwo Jima, and P-47 Thunderbolt at War. He lives in Seattle, Washington.

Steve Hinton is the president of the Planes of Fame Museum and the owner of Fighter Rebuilders in Chino, California. He is a test pilot, air-show performer, World Speed Record holder, and Reno Air Race Champion who also operates vintage warbirds for the motion-picture industry. Hinton has logged more than 11,500 hours in the air, including 9,000 hours in more than 150 types of vintage aircraft.

P-51 Mustang continues between the covers with historical and current photos of Mustangs during their service history through the Korean War as well as today.Graff's writing tells the tale of Mustang variants and service history though not too technically and spiced with anecdotes from posters to model kits—just enough for demonstrating how deep in Americana the Mustang has become.The exotic variants such as the Twin Mustang and Cavalier are in the book as well. Graff also has a deep understanding of the many mission profiles Mustang pilots flew (e.g., fighter, attack, recce) as well as long flights (part of the P-51's supremacy was its long range)—he takes care to note, as an example, that the P-51 had a relief tube but with no explanation of its use in the manual. This is how well Graff gives the reader the context of the times, what it was like to be there whether it was blue skies, mud and slush, or frozen ground.Get this book for Graff's research, he is the military aviation historian with the Flying Heritage Collection, and especially for the images (from several sources) which range from those shot during the moment by service personnel to professional aviation photography.Readers will welcome this book whether it is their first book on the P-51 or an addition to their Mustang section in their library. Morrow This book arrived Monday October 26th, 2015, which ironically was the 75th anniversary of the first flight of a P-51 Mustang. It is a beautiful book, with lovely photographs, and vintage advertisements featuring the P-51. Also the paper used in this book is heavy photo stock paper, so it is made to last. Highly, highly recommend.

And as always, Mr. Graff's writing never fails to entertain. I always love when you can tell that the author has a sense of humour layered underneath the historical text. This is a must-have for any P-51 aficionado.
