By Stone Dog I found Alexander Ludeke's German Half-Tracks and Wheeled Vehicles wanting in regard to it's primary purpose. The book focuses only on armored wheeled and half-tracked vehicles. It's about two-thirds the size of an Osprey title and 128 pages. This is advertised as a "Fact File" book. In this case, it means each vehicle gets one or two small pages,a few paragraphs of text a couple drawings or period photos. So, it's essentially a catalog of armored half-tracks and armored cars used by the Wehrmacht during WWII with very little information about each. This is not what I was expecting. I felt a little misled by the title since it doesn't include unarmored personnel carriers and artillery tractors. It does have one good point - the author includes foreign vehicles the mainly-horse-drawn German army adopted for it's own use. I was surprised by the number of foreign-made vehicles the Germans were desperate enough to use and give a formal designation to.I didn't think the book was worth my money for what I got. If someone wanted a catalog of German wheeled or half-tracked armored vehicles, this would be a resource, but apart from that, I would not recommend this book.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Very worthwhile to have. Covers numerous variations and modifications. By Bayard B. Overall very good book on German military vehicles. The best aspect of the book is that it covers all vehicles, including some rare ones developed in the 1920s and also several types that were seized from the French, Czech, Italian, and Russian armies and modified to a greater or lesser extent for German army service. There are other books that provide more detail on specifically German vehicles such as the Sd.Kfz 250 and 251. This book covers modifications or versions of the Sd.Kfz 250 and 251 such as anti-aircraft, mortar carriers, artillery support vehicles, and anti-tank vehicles. The text discusses the design and tactical development as well as presenting technical details and performance data.
