Chiropterans run wild — and Saya comes into her own as a single-minded killing machine! Three months after the demolition of Red Shield headquarters, Saya is more intent than ever to rid the globe of all Chiropterans, and she travels to New York City for a bloody showdown with Diva. When Diva sings, her supernatural sounds turn some humans into hellish, bloodthirsty beasts . . . and what better place to start a Chiropteran apocalypse than Carnegie Hall? Desperate to kill these monsters and put a stop to Diva's threat once and for all, Saya's willing to kill her loved ones and herself to achieve this goal, and her rage will not be quenched by Hagi's presence or Kai's pleas—or by a strange declaration of love.

The tone is almost one of parody as the characters are exaggerated in affect and action. The subtle nuances of the television series are disposed of in favor of action and fan service. I imagine this was done to sell the manga to a younger, male crowd who may have found the romantic triangle of Saya, Haji and Solomon too mushy for their tastes. If you are a romantic, you will not enjoy the manga although as a Blood Plus fan, you will appreciate the greater detail to backstory and even some of the differences. For example, (spoiler alert), George Miuyagusuku doesn't die in the manga. He sometimes acts like a fool, though. I didn't like that much. The character of Charles aka Karl is also more developed so if you like that character, the manga will please. All in all, manga is manga and anime is anime. They don't always reflect well on each other. I prefer the animated version, as well as the complex story that is slowly developed over time. The less patient and less romantic will probably disagree. And that's what makes a horse race.

I wish the anime had that kind of ending By VampireNovelFan Chiropterans are starting to take over the world and Saya's finally tapped into her killing nature. The 5 volume series culminates to a final showdown between the twins at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Saya's desperate to end the Chiropteran reign once and for all, risking her life and her friends. Everyone who loves Saya gives it their best to help end this terror.Be it the manga or the anime, this ending remains really powerful. Staying true to the Japanese norm, the ending is bittersweet. I felt really sorry for both Saya and Diva. They were both capable of being happy normal girls (well, maybe not quite normal, but their humanity could be intact) but greed and selfishness outside of their control lead them on their respective paths. There are beautiful color illustrations at the beginning of the manga. One in particular makes you think "what if" as it has everybody together (good guys and bad guys) living happily and harmoniously.I strongly recommend this series. If you don't want to spend time watching the 50 episode anime, then this 5 volume manga hits the main points nicely. There are *huge* plot differences, but I think I prefer how it turned out in the manga anyway.

So rather than having three years realistically pass following Red Shield's destruction, Ms. Katsura has thrown all logic out the window and made only three MONTHS go by since then. More worse is that rather than Saya becoming emo after Riku's death in the anime and avoiding those she loves to protect them, she is unreasonably more of a jerk as she feels bad about Diva reacting to her mission to kill her and believes in order to do so she "doesn't need a heart". Somehow this makes it absolutely okay to act like a douche to her brother, especially her second Chevalier as she passively admits that she will kill all Chiropterans including her own brother.Other than Saya's unjustified rotten attitude, Solomon uses Riku as insurance to "mate" with Saya and returns the boy to her, and even declaring that he fell in love with her at first sight. So after a rather anti-climactic "battle", everything is honkey dory, yahdah-yahdah-yahdah. The only thing however, that I wished happened in the anime is Solomon surviving through the epilogue. But no. Instead he dies, and his creepy counterpart lives. I also find it infuriating that unlike the anime Van didn't go to jail. Too bad he didn't die in this adaptation otherwise that would be the only redeeming factor. Boring battle, horrible ending and ultimately the worst telling of one of my favorite anime series. Such a waste.
