This book is the culmination of 15 years of research dealing with I/SS-Panzer Regiment 3, from its inception in 1942, when it was equipped with Panzer III's and IV's, until its conversion to the Panther tank during late 1943. The book covers the history of I/SS-Panzer Regiment 3 when it was equipped with Panther tanks. From the summer of 1944, Abteilung fought in Siedlce and later in the defensive battles east and north east of Warsaw. Later during 1945, the Abteilung would take part in the Konrad operations in Hungary in an attempt to relieve the forces trapped inside Budapest. By March 1945 the remnants of I/SS-Panzer Regiment 3 was in full retreat and would eventually surrender in May 1945 in Austria.

By Miguel Tavarez The book is just daily, day to day reports, not sure what the author contributed in this, but it's very stale and matter of fact. i thought panzer ace Meierdrees would feature more prominently in this book but it seems he was a pencil pusher during the climatic tank battles for poland in the summer of 44. Perhaps war gamers might find something in this worthwhile but for everyone else i would say it's not a cohesive or engaging read. The author gets a fail. sorry.

By Keith Bickel After receiving the author's Tigers of the Death's Head I had expected a comparable volume on the Panther Abteilung. The book seems well researched & has new information, but is more like a diary. The author states it started as a short appendix to another project grown into a short history. The photo section is the last 18 pages with mostly new (to me) pics from the veterans, mostly 1 or 2 per page. A useful volume.

By J OF R xxx This is a diary of the 3SS Panther Bat.To me it's a bit dry.but as it is a diary,that's OK.Their is a lot of information on a Bat.I knew nothing about.A lot of B/W Photos 18 pages worth.No color plates.But for the price,one can't have everything.And as I AM NOT A FAN OF 3SS. A good read!!! J....of....R xxx
