The story and art here are truly fantastic, and fully deserve the 5 stars By TheAmazingSpider-Man The story and art here are truly fantastic, and fully deserve the 5 stars. If you're looking for a detailed review of the content, please consult the reviews for the individual volumes that make up this Omnibus (Vols. 1-5 of Uncanny Avengers), or the other reviews that this Omnibus will undoubtedly get. This review is for those of you who care about the quality of the book itself, which is a solid 3 stars.I've been collecting Marvel's Omnibus line since 2006, and while there have been improvements over these years (most notably the switch from glued to sewn binding), the paper quality has taken a nosedive. This is certainly the case with this volume. The book lays flat and is quite easy to read, and the oversized art looks fantastic. However, the paper being used here is quite thin and flimsy. It's not as bad as Marvel's current event oversized books- see Infinity, Death of Wolverine, etc.- but the paper is closer to that of a nice magazine than a $100 book. The old Marvel Omnibus and Oversized Hardcover lines used to be made for prestige and endurance, but they have lost those edges. The result is a product that feels...cheaper.There are upsides to the change in paper, as the book is smaller and thus easier to read and store. And if you haven't bought a Marvel Omnibus pre-2012, you might not agree with my assessment. But for those of us who remember what the line used to be like, or for those of us who can compare the quality to something like Dark Horse's Big Damn Sin City, the production on this book just doesn't cut it. Even for 45% off the discounted price (or whatever deal you get).It seems apparent that Marvel has cut some corners to save the company a few dollars- all while raising the price of these Omnibus books! Case in point: the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 has a MSRP of $100 for 1088 pages, the same price for this 672 page book. Perhaps the production issues on this Omnibus would go down a little smoother with a $75 MSRP, but even that's still a lot for a book like this. You'll most likely enjoy this story, but you may want to consider other routes for getting the material- i.e. the individual trades, digital, etc. If you do decide to get this book, the quality is not terrible...it's just not that great, either.

It arrives wrapped in plastic, and has a nice weight to it, but not too heavy so it comes uncomfortable to read for an extended period. I can't decide if I prefer the dust jacket art, or the beautiful art underneath on the actually book itself. Very pleased with my purchase!

His god-tier run on Uncanny X-force is still one of my favorite runs in comic history. So when I heard he took a stab at a Avengers book, I jumped right on it. He blends X men with Avengers into a unity team to help both sides. The idea works for the most part. His arcs involving the Apocalypse twins (a callback to his UXF run) is incredible, and makes this a must own for returning fans. However, the faults lie in the beginning and ending of this tome. The Red Skulls involvement is what tarnishes this overall story, as he feels mutants are a menace (just out of the blue...I've never seen him give a s*** about them) and steals Professor X's brain....yeah. After the first 4 issues involving him, he reappears in the last arc, setting up the AXIS story line. Only problem is Marvel editorial made Remender turn the story line into a crossover, making it larger in scale and not included in this book. And its needed to finish the story, as the book doesn't conclude and leads right into the event, which varies in quality depending on your taste. Despite the Red Skull involvement, the story here is good enough from the follow up from his UXF days, and for that you should read it.The Omni itself is a little smaller than most, mostly due to the paper stock used, but its a minor complaint. If you can get this book, and then decide if its worth getting Axis as well.
