I was twenty five years old when I was diagnosed with Asperger’s. Until then my parents just thought that I was difficult, lazy and perhaps a little shy. I’m hoping that my story will help people to have a better insight in what it is like having to live with Asperger’s every day. I also hope that people who have Asperger’s will be encouraged to know that they are not on their own. Below are some of the topics that my story includes; Experiencing basic education at school; seeking Further Education qualifications at college; struggling to find suitable employment; the nightmare of the Job Centre expectations; coping with the complexities of the benefit system, and the mystery of socialising with people!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very informative book By Valerie Caraotta Author Sally Watson has bravely and transparently shared her life encounters with having Asperger's Syndrome. Not diagnosed until age 25, the private suffering and questions that have plagued her have opened her mind today to better understanding. She relays the painful and misunderstood moments in the event others may have this diagnosis and/or need clarity of this condition. And a seemingly lifelong quest to fit in with others, barriers of communication have limited her. This disability has inhibited her in understanding how to join groups of people in conversation. "Not being able to fit in some of the time, makes you feel worthless and in the way and that you have nothing to give to the world… In the end 80 roads away your confidence. "Trace her life we collection from attending a special school up through her current adult age around 30. As she transitioned to mainstream school, fears would eminate and the cruelty experienced would create migraines and stress. "I think my experience in the mainstream school is still affecting me today. I just didn't get the help I needed to be able to integrate into the classroom. "As an only child from England with any emotionally absent father growing up, the upbringing was left to her mom. She would attend college but unfortunately was faced her first year with having to learn things she already knew such as how to make a cup of tea and how to wash the floor. Though her second year of study included math, English and information-technology there would be trouble makers in class that would disrupt the learning environment. At a job center the disability employment advisor sent her on jobs that made her feel trapped in a dead end cycle.Sally Watson gives a glimpse into her world by telling of her obsessive recordkeeping. "I keep a record of all my e-books I buy on Kindle. How much each book is. Also how much it would be in paperback, new and used price. I can look back over my records and see how much money I have saved by buying books through my Kindle. " The reader will discover her painstaking attempts at jobs – both full-time and temping – and it will become evident that the world is not tolerant at times. She would transition at age 30 to a smaller house with her parents and eventually obtain her drivers license. In search of greater meaning and understanding she paints today in a club and attends an Asperger's support group. This book is right from the heart and holds no punches when it comes to the truth. Hopefully it will propel others to be patient and understanding. Though there are some grammatical errors they do not detract from the meaning of the text. I recommend this book to others for the vital content into the realities and struggles many face today.
