But I didn't love it By Matt Anderson Collects All-New X-Men issues #31-36All the pieces are there. Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man. The All-New X-Men. Parallel Universes. But for some reason, I can't give this the full 5-star rating. I liked it. A lot. But I didn't love it.In this story, the All-New X-Men from Earth-616 travel to the Ultimate Universe and team-up with the Ultimate Spider-Man and the Ultimate X-Men.Don't be fooled, though. Cyclops is on the cover, but he's not in the book. At all. The 616 Kitty Pryde doesn't travel with the team to the Ultimate Universe either.Overall, this Ultimate Adventure doesn't move the "All-New X-Men" storyline ahead very much. Even though it is a fun spinning of the wheels, it is still spinning its wheels. Young Beast does have a revelation that comes from this adventure, and I could see that realization leading to good, future stories for this team.

This series should have ended before it got to this point By Ben Martin I read this story when I first got it a few months ago, and flipped through it before writing this review to refresh my memory, and I still don't really remember anything significant about the plot. But I guess if you like seeing alternate versions of the X-Men meet .... other alternate versions of the X-Men (and Dr. Doom and Spider-Man), it's ok. If you like the Ultimate Universe, I guess pick this up. Personally, I'm not picking up the last volume of this series before it (presumably) ends after Secret Wars.The art is good, however, and Bendis conintues to do a good job writing interactions between characters. It seems like he's run out of people for these young X-Men to encounter in the standard continuity, so he's now bringing in characters from the Ultimate world to do the same kind of stuff he's been doing on this title from the start.All-New X-Men really should have been a shorter series, with the original cast eventually being sent back with their memories wiped or blocked in order to keep pace with the ever-changing time travel rules. Had this series gone that route sometime after the stuff with Mystique and Sabertooth a couple volumes ago, I would have been much more satisfied. As it is, it left me with a bit of regret over the way things went during and after "Battle of the Atom."

Wells Collecting: All-New X-Men #31-36In the previous episode, All-New X-Men Volume 5: One Down, the time-displaced X-Men bested the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Now with a stronger sense of self confidence and with the adult X-Men away at the reading of Xavier's last will and testament (see Uncanny X-Men Volume 4: Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. ), the young X-Men plus X-23 decide to investigate a new mutant sighting on the cerebro on their own.As if the time-displaced X-Men weren't causing enough disturbance to the state of the universe, the new mutant appears to have the ability to open gateways throughout the multiverse. The X-Men are shunted from our universe (known as Earth 616) to Earth 1610-- a parallel Earth in the multiverse that is home of Miles Morales, Ultimate Spider-Man. Scattered throughout this alternate Earth, the X-Men are put to the test! Iceman finds himself fighting mole people in a very steamy Atlanta. Beast becomes the prisoner of Dr. Doom. Angel ends up in the Savage Land. And X-23 learns the origin of mutants in this alternate dimension! Jean Grey and Ultimate Spider-Man team up with this world's X-Men to set things right.Writer Brian Michael Bendis seems a bit overly fond of time/space displacement, even if in this particular instance it was nice to see the time-displaced X-Men team up with Ultimate Spider-Man. That said, having the young X-Men meet older X-Men and then revealing that adult life didn't work out how the teens thought it might seems a little tired at this point. The Jean and Miles Morales moments were done well enough to save this volume, but it won't be remembered as a favorite.The adventures of the young X-Men from the past who are stuck in the present continue in All-New X-Men Vol. 7: The Utopians
