By AParkR This is one of the best non-Marvel/DC books I've read in quite some time. Good writing is important, but the ultimate deciding factor in my decision to purchase any trade paperback or art book is the artwork. Happily, this Image trade paperback has both. I'd never previously heard of writer Adam McGovern, artist Paolo Leandri, and colorist Dominic Regan, but this book definitely puts them firmly in my mind. The production values definitely have that classic Silver Age vibe combined with some of the energy and sensibilities of some of the Underground comic art. There are many artists who've been influenced by the late, great Jack "King" Kirby to varying degrees. Paolo Leandri has that influence, but other influences are present in his artwork that help to distinguish him from the pack. I wasn't kidding in my intro when I said I could also see some Daniel Clowes, Charles Burns, and Italian horror-meister Mario Bava in Leandri's work. I would even go a step further by adding that I can see a tiny bit of Steve Ditko as well as some animation influences. The characters are well-realized and the story isn't shackled by the usual corporate superhero conventions.I could see this team doing some mainstream, one-off stories with characters like The Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Etrigan the Demon, The Creeper, and Shade the Changing Man. Personally, I think the team of McGovern, Leandri, and Regan are far better off doing their own stories with their own characters because their unique styles would be straitjacketed by the demands of mainstream publishers ( Image, Dark Horse, and IDW aside). Lest you think this is a rant against Marvel and DC, know that I'm a lifelong comic book fan who has many of their comics in my collection (except the New 52/Marvel Now stuff). Long story short, I'd love to see a followup to Nightworld or any new story & characters from this creative team. A wonderful trade paperback worth owning.

By Michael Berry A fantastic homage to Kirby, imagine combining the best elements of "The Forbidden Zone" and Dante's "Inferno" and souping them up into a retro Gothic jalopy halfway through a rebuild into a transcendental roadster of a morality play that's being driven by Jack Kirby (while he's on about 10 hits of LSD) through the studio for the original incarnation of "Dark Shadows," whilst said studio is burning to the ground. If you can fathom all that then you're nearly one-third of the way down the path to understanding what a whimsical delight this comic truly is.

Kirbyesque comic book collection about demons By PaulAllard Obviously influenced by Jack Kirby, this collection about hellspawn and demons vying for various items of power is quite fun. With a lot of colour and jumping/flying around, the stories are short and moderately interesting. The main character, Plenilunio, is trying to redeem himself and retrieve past love.I found this quite entertaining but not overly so. Too derivative for my liking.
