He is reunited with his daughter and happily to wed to Shikla, demon-queen of the underworld. However, Deadpool's domestic bliss is turned upside down when the mercenary is drawn into the Red Skull's bid for world domination (see: Avengers & X-Men: Axis ).The highlights of the Avenger/X-Men Axis crossover are retold from Deadpool's insane point of view. Readers who enjoyed the Axis crossover will be interested in this volume because several key moments in the Axis event are expanded here. The moment Magneto recruits Deadpool into his cabal is pretty good, but the extended scenes with Evan add important details to the event.The Axis inversion spell turns Deadpool into a vegetarian Zen peacenick, and it couldn't come at a worse time. The refugee North Korean FauX-Men are at the mercy of newly evil X-Men. Deadpool's new alignment nearly ruins his marriage. But his neighbors seem happy with the change!Finally, this collection ends with a little morality tale about "Gracking" (Gamma-radiation fracking). Deadpool is paid by Roxxon to sing the praises of the energy-extraction process. In the course of illustration the marvel of fracking, Deadpool gives readers a tour of the problems involved with the process. As it turns out, Deadpool was affected by this event, too. So what happens when a wise-cracking, gun-toting, stab-happy mercenary gets his eggs scrambled? Well, you’ll have to read it to find out, but it’s pretty crazy.It turns out that the people who like Deadpool the most aren’t real happy about this change in his nature. The villains, however, love his new non-lethal, talk-it-through approach to life! Deadpool’s encounters with the “bad guys” lead to some really funny situations. This book is definitely one of the stronger books (if not the strongest) from the current writing duo, and I really enjoyed it. This creative team is definitely leaving their own unique mark on this title.The artwork on the book is as good as I’ve come to expect from Deadpool, and the covers are some of the most ingenious you’ll find on the shelves. Of particular interest is the “coloring book” one-shot story that is the end-cap to this book. The entire issue is done up as a Roxxon promotional coloring book and it looks as if the entire book was colored with a basic set of colored pencils. The art still looks great, and it was one of the most creative things I’ve seen done in a comic book in a very long time.So, good art, good story, plenty of chuckles – all that you could want in a Deadpool book. Any Deadpool fan is going to love it, and any Marvel comics fans is (at the very least) going to appreciate it. Deadpool and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance By matthew zeman As people have stated, this collection is a crossover of Avengers/X-Men: Axis, therefore if you haven’t read that series there are many situations where you can become confused. At the beginning of the collection Dracula is in the spider-slayer and tries to kill Deadpool, then it continues to talk about the events at Genosha. Evan tries to have Deadpool help them, but at that point in time, Deadpool is more concerned with his daughter’s well-being. However, Magneto crashes into Deadpool’s house and sends him off to Genosha. This collection shows the perspective of certain events that unfolds in the war, and finally when the war is over, Evan created the Axis inversion which inverses everyones characteristics. This war led to Deadpool’s change into Zenpool, because of all the people that he has killed, he no longer believes that he can be in control; therefore he changes into his alter ego who “drives” with a no blood philosophy. The North Korean X-Men are trapped inside the X-mansion imprisoned by the inverse X-Men. In the end, they escape but with the North Korean X-Men developing trust issues toward the original X-Men. Zenpool reaches the underworld and asks his wife Shiklah to provide asylum to the North Korean X-Men. Meanwhile, Apocalypse is wreaking havoc in Manhattan, but Zenpool finds a way to subdue him (see Avengers/Xmen: Axis #9), but losing his body in the process. The team of “villains” consisted of Taskmaster, Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch helped revert the world to its normal state. This whole situation caused the world to have deep mistrust towards Evan and his becoming of Apocalypse. Upon reverting to Deadpool’s normal state, he saves the North Koreans and provides asylum to Evan. Even though changing into Zenpool broadened his perspective, he still can’t understand the feeling of happiness, and it seems he never will.For someone who hasn’t read the Avengers/Xmen: Axis, it is very confusing, because of the crossovers and not knowing the context behind the reason that this is happening. Therefore, people will be confused and frustrated, because they wouldn’t understand what is happening. I would recommend to first read the Avengers/Xmen: Axis so that you can learn more about the situation. Later on, however, because of the change of traits, people might feel like the idea of a different Deadpool is weird or non-comical. People might feel this way because of the lack of Deadpool-ness in the comic, but there really isn’t a way to describe a Deadpool comic. The comic still maintains the Deadpool humor, while still expressing the change inside Deadpool. At a deeper level, the arc is confronting the idea that your inner self can’t change even if your personality alters. This arc shows this by presenting the idea that Deadpool has an alter ego, and how he learns to control himself. In the end, however, he came back to the starting point and wasn’t able to achieve anything. Much like most of the arcs, this arc ends on a bit of a sad note, even though he experienced his alter ego, he still hasn’t experienced the happiness that he deeply craves.
