About the Author Chuck Dixon is a comic book writer best known for his long runs on several Batman titles in the 1990 s for DC Comics. Throughout his prolific career, Dixon has written for" Evangeline" (Comico Comics), "The Savage Sword of Conan, The Punisher War Journal" (Marvel Comics), "Robin, Nightwing, Detective Comics" (DC Comics), and "Simpsons Comics" (Bongo Comics). Dixon worked closely with Robert Jordan on the graphic adaptation of "New Spring" and with Jordan s estate on The "Eye of the World" graphic novel. Larry Elmore is a commercial artist whose Fantasy and Science Fiction work is known internationally. Larry, his wife Betty and their two children live in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

Airboy does not have super powers, but he is a classic action-adventure pilot hero. The art is excellent.The series is best in volume 1 and 2. 3 is not as good.

By Stephen Vincent Kempton The third volume features another nine issues of Eclipse Comics Airboy ( Airboy #26 through #34) plus an Airboy spin off The Air Maidens plus two crossovers. One with Mr. Monster and one with The Prowler. Over 300 pages of fun 1980's comics.These volumes are big and thick like an Marvel Epic Collection done on thicker paper then an Epic book. Unfortunately IDW is still using that tan pseudo aged paper stock which mutes the vibrant colors and makes them look dull.The book features a great new cover from Tim Truman and another informative introduction by original writer Chuck Dixon. The book opens with the Air Maidens special. The team consists of Valkyrie , the new Black Angel whom we met in the Valkyrie mini-series plus the new creation of La Lupina a female Hispanic version of Sky Wolf. The story showcases some nice "good girl art" from Larry Elmore a great from the TSR school of gaming books and magazines.The lead Airboy story for issues #26 to #30 is a great five part battle royale with all of Airboy's villains teaming up to combat all of his allies. Lots of fun. We get eight Sky Wolf backs set in the 1950's plus a lead in story to the Mr. Monster crossover. The two Sky Wolf back ups done by Dan Spiegle are things of beauty. The first of these stories which featured Sky Wolf and Riot talking is a touching tale and my favorite of the entire volume.In the Mr. Monster story, The Heap also is featured. This is another touching tale of a washed up alcoholic comic artist named Everett W. Coleman. This character I believe is inspired by Sub-Mariner creator Bill Everett who's battle with the bottle prevented him from ever getting the acclaim he deserved. Plastic Man's creator Bill Cole who committed suicide at an early age may also be the other inspiration.The book ends with The Prowler crossover which who was a Tim Truman and John K Snyder creation. By my calculations we have two more archives to go and I eagerly await them.
