Dr. Laird makes a strong case against the current relevancy of animal dissection in his book published by the prominent publisher Tate Publishing: Animal Dissection: Outdated and Unnecessary The school authorities and teachers justify this behavior of animal cruelty and injustice in the name of studies. Their view is that with these dissection experiments students learn about the parts of body of the vertebrate animals. The National Science Teacher's Association (NSTA) supports including live animals as part of instruction in the K-12 science classroom because observing and working with animals firsthand can spark students' interest in science as well as a general respect for life while reinforcing key concepts as outlined in the National Science Education Standards (NSES).To give them this knowledge thousands of small animals like frogs, cats, pigs etc. are slaughtered at the hand of little children of grade levels as low as grade 5. Instead of teaching children kindness towards the animals it gives them a lesson of cruelty towards animals. These small children do not have a level of maturity to gain much scientific knowledge from the experience except the body parts. But Kenneth Roy, chair of the Science Safety Advisory Board of the National Science Teachers Association, defends animal dissection, by saying that "I would use the example of driving a real car versus a driving simulation on a computer or in a game room machine. The real-time dissection provides awareness to all of the senses - touch especially - texture, form, etc" (Strauss, 2007). A 2002 poll by the Humane Society showed that a majority of biology teachers say they believe the real thing is a better educational experience than the virtual alternative. The National Association of Biology Teachers supports the practice of dissection when done for legitimate educational purposes, as does the National Science Teachers Association (Strauss, 2007). Others speak against dissection, emphasizing the negative memories and messages associated with the experience (Shapiro, 1992).

Anti-vivisection information By Grady Harp Dr. Aaron Laird earned his BS and Doctorate of Science form California University and is an ordained non-denominational Minister: he is a humanitarian and supporter of life in all the various forms of God’s creation. He gained his PhD from Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland) and he comfortably uses the prefix Dr. as a poet. The doctorate designation is not shared. But all of the peripheral information about him is secondary to the manner in which he has been so comfortable becoming a popular poet, selling his compilations widely and continuing to write his poetry. As has been stated, his poems `transcend space and time' with historical, contemporary, and philosophical poems - using vivid imagery, sharp use of language, and existential ideas will make you stop and think about the world around you.' The unique aspect of Aaron’s writing, beyond the varied spectrum of his publications, is the manner in which he approaches poetry, animal concerns, imagined revisions of history, metaphysical issues - he touches so many topics with surety that he must be one of the finest coffee mates available! In this brief but valid and informative book Aaron confronts the media and the vivisectionists on the problems of animal dissection for ‘teaching principals. As he opens his book he states, ‘Animal dissection has been the cornerstone of American Biology study amongst junior and high school students since the 1950's. In 1991, it was revealed that 80% of high school students had dissected at least one animal. The following dissection decades did not pass without incident. Creationists were once able to have the word evolution removed from biology class all together. A frog epidemic in California called 'Red Leg' nearly decimated the state's Red Leg frog population. Red Leg frogs are a commonly dissected frog. Traditional dissection weathered these storms. That is until the 1990' s when standard dissection came under a new wave of multi-directionalassaults.’Aaron discusses the advances in medical and technological sciences since that time and strongly presents a case against animal dissection in our schools. Food for thought and change. Grady Harp, September 15

In addition, Laird was ordained as a non-denominational Minister. This additional qualification solidified his stance as a humanitarian and a supporter of life in all of the various forms that God has created it.Overall a great read ..I highly recommend this book..
